How to get some of Pantone's colour of the Year into your house

Good grief Pantone, you don’t like to make life easy for people do you? Every year we wait with bated breath for you to tell us what your ‘Colour of the Year’ is so we can be on trend and work that colour into our home’s palette … and each year you seem to want to make it more challenging for us! I’m still having nightmares about Tangerine Tango.

When I started researching for this year’s colour however, I was pleasantly surprised. It seems that getting a bit of Radiant Orchid into my home isn’t going to be as hard as I thought.

But first, I must congratulate Dulux for being a full year ahead of this trend with last year’s ‘Blur’ colour palette. If you’re looking to make a statement, it’s not too late! You just need to get your hands on a tin of Akitio and you too can have a room that looks like this:

But if your tastes run towards the more … understated side of the spectrum, never fear, I went online to my favourite shop, Down That Little Lane, and found some perfect pieces for you to accessorise with if the thought of a purple wall is a bit much:

And if you want to go really understated then how about this beautiful hydrangea?

You can even get Radiant Orchid working for you outside your home. Check out these examples from my local neighbourhood. I LOVE the lanterns!

What are your thoughts about Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2014? Love it or loathe it?

  1. I think you’ve done well with a very challenging colour, Kelly. There’s no way my husband would allow any purple in our home – let alone ‘Radiant Orchid’…! Love the Skyfall artwork and the Je T’aime cushion.
